Kastel Fortress in Banja Luka
Kastel Fortress is located in Banja Luka and is one of the oldest buildings in Bosnia and Herzegovina. There is little information about who and when built Kastel but by many estimates the fortress Of Kastel was most likely built by the Romans in the 3rd century, although some finds claim that the fortress was built later, i.e. in the 9th century AD.
The fortress is surrounded on all sides by stone walls, on which loopholes and watchtowers were built, which indicates that in the past it was a very strong military fortress.
Geological excavations of various objects and coins in the area of the city, which was used by the ancient Romans, reinforce the thesis that the site of the fortress housed the Roman military settlement Of Castra. Located in the border zone between dalmatia and pannonia, Castro belonged to Dalmatia, as its northernmost part.
