Chacma Baboon Troops Walking Down The Road & Playing In The Bush Near Olifants
Chacma Baboon Bark & Primate Noises
The Chacma Baboon (Papio ursinus) is also known as the Cape Baboon, and its part of the Old World Monkey family, and is one of the largest Monkey species on the continent. The Chacma Baboon is a common sight in the Kruger National Park, and they can be found along many waterways, especially river systems - be it perennial or non-perennial rivers.
In the Kruger National Park, the Chacma Baboon is often regarded as a nuisance at rest camps and picnic spots. They raid bins and often harass visitors and try steal food. They will even intimidate you to get food out of your hand. This is NOT their fault and very sad. This is because many visitors feed them, and this means they get used to humans and regard them as a food source. This often ends in the Baboon or sometimes even the whole troop, being put down. Please do not feed the animals in the Kruger National Park.
This video was taken around the Olifants area. The first part of the video shows a massive troop of Chacma Baboons walking along the road right next to the Olifants River. The second part of this video was taken on the S90, and shows a troop of Chacma Baboons literally "monkeying" around. In the background of this video you can hear the characteristic bark of the Chacma Baboon, and also other sounds and noises these primates make.
