Story of Kunjapuri Devi Temple in Hindi
According to mythology, Mata Sati was the daughter of King Daksha Prajapati, who was married to Lord Shiva. Once Daksha Prajapati organized a grand yagna in his residence Kankhal Haridwar and in this grand yajna, Daksha Prajapati invited all the gods and goddesses except Lord Shiva. When Mother Sati came to know that my father did not invite my husband to this grand yagna. Seeing this insult to her husband by her father, Mother Sati sacrificed her life by jumping into the same yagna.

Hearing this information, Lord Shiva became very angry and sent his half-god Veerbhadra and Shiva Ganas to battle Kankhal. Veerbhadra went and destroyed that grand yagna and cut off King Daksha's head. On the request of all the gods, Lord Shiva gave life to King Daksha again and put a goat's head on him. Seeing this, King Daksha repented of his mistakes and apologized to Lord Shiva with folded hands. Then Lord Shiva announced in front of all the gods and goddesses that every year in the month of Sawan, I will reside in Kankhal.


Lord Shiva became very angry and picked up the dead body of Sati and started circling the entire Brahmin. After that, Lord Vishnu divided Sati's body into 51 parts with his Sudarshan Chakra. As a result, parts of Sati's burnt body fell at different places on earth. Wherever parts of Sati's body fell, all those places became "Shaktipeeths". Where there is a temple of Kunjapuri Devi, the hand of Mata Sati fell at this place. That is why this temple is counted among the 51 Shaktipeeths. Devotees come here and visit Maa Kunjapuri Devi and get her blessings.
