AN SNP MP has presented a bill in the House of Commons to give asylum seekers the right to work in the UK in an effort to abolish the ban imposed by the UK Government.
Presently, individuals in quest for asylum in the UK are only able to apply for the right to work after they have been waiting for an outcome on their asylum claim for over 12 months.
And those then granted such permission are hardly ever able to work in practice due to their employment is constrained to the UK Government’s Shortage Occupation List.
Many of those in search of refugee status in the UK are residing on just £5.39 a day although they wait months or even years for an outcome on their asylum claim.
A report discovered that 71% of citizens in the UK agree that migrants seeking asylum should be permitted to work.
