BRICS nations represent around 45 percent of the world’s population and 16 percent of global trade. Originally, comprised of four of the world’s fastest-growing emerging economies – Brazil, Russia, India, and China -- South Africa joined two years later. The bloc says it aims to promote peace, security, development, and cooperation in the Global South. CGTN’s Luis Chirino reports from Havana.
