See what happens the Monday morning after the Gasparilla Pirate Fest and Parade when some pesky pirates decide to take over the office of the City of Tampa.
The Gasparilla Pirate Festival is one of Tampa's most treasured traditions. Inspired by the legend of Pirate Jose Gaspar, the Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla was founded in 1904. The group organized the Gasparilla Invasion and Parade of Pirates. This community event has evolved into the third largest parade in the United States, attracting over 250,000 visitors annually to the City of Tampa. Pirates capture the key to the City of Tampa, followed by a victory parade of Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla. The parade winds from the Hillsborough Bay, through downtown Tampa, and along our picturesque Bayshore Boulevard. This year's parade featured over 140 units – one-hundred three (103) floats, three (5) marching bands and over fifty (50) participating social organizations (i.e. krewes). Krewes reflect Tampa's cultural heritage, historic events and local historic figures.
