The Alesis MIDIVERB II has become something of a cult classic effects unit. For a fraction of the price you can get something that is in the ballpark of the AMS RMX 16 and Eventide H3000.

On paper (in 2021) not so much to brag about. In real life, it wraps around your sound like liquid gold, in all the right dark ways. No, you can't edit the sounds, you can't change anything, but what you can do is use any of the 100 very usable presets and just reap the benefits of one of the most lovely, cheap, lush and underestimated effect units of the 80s.
Get it now if you have the chance!
I use the ISLA S2400 and perform the opening demo sequence all live. Sampled sounds are Fairlight drums, M1 piano and Six-Trak chords and bass. Add some Fairlight guitars as well.
The synth played in the second part is a Roland JX-3P.
All effects are out of the MIDIVERB II.

Growing up I listened to so much synth-pop and it's only natural that my own music takes inspiration from many of the acts I loved back then. I still love them and listen to them!
Howard Jones, Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, New Order, Erasure, Thompson Twins, Tears for Fears, The Human League, Propaganda. FGTH, Ultravox, OMD, Eurythmics, Duran Duran, Giorgio Moroder, Jean Michel Jarre, Jan Hammer, Alphaville, A-ha as well as loads of artists doing what is now called Italo Disco. And many more great acts like Nik Kershaw, Spandau Ballet, Wham, Dire Straits ++
