"Why did the Hawaiian Studies building take so long to be built?"
Here Kealiʻi Gora, Haunani-Kay Trask, and Lilikalā Kameʻeleihiwa discuss the opening of the Center for Hawaiian Studies building at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. Like most Hawaiian entities existing under the illegal American occupation of our Nation, the building was brought to fruition through means of resistance, perseverance, and aloha. The building (now known as Kamakakūokalani) continues to stand and serve students within the University system who seek to learn about things Hawaiian from Hawaiian perspectives. On a more personal note, Hawaiian Studies played a HUGE role in my own "woke" process, and for those looking to do the same, I would strongly encourage you to give this program a try.
