How to measure the weight of cannabis without scales
We’re not suggesting that you may be about to set yourself up as a drug dealer and therefore will have an everyday need to measure the weight of your cannabis.
No. It might just be a simple case that a buddy has enjoyed some of your weed and has simply asked if they could have a few grammes off you.
So what do you do if you don’t have any scales handy?
Well, one of the most accurate option is to download an app for your smartphone and use that.
However, that’s not so much fun and not as great a challenge as creating a ‘proper’ measuring scale.
The easiest one is to use a foot-long ruler and a pencil as the fulcrum a the six-inch mark.
Then, at one end place an object you know weighs say five grammes, or close to it.
The most obvious choice would be a 20p piece which weighs exactly 5 grammes, while a pound coin weighs 6.5 grammes. If you’re in the States or anywhere else in the world use an alternative appropriately weighted coin.
One out of the Blue Peter book of DIY cannabis weighing scales that doesn’t involve sticky-backed plastic, a toilet roll tube, or a Fairy Liquid bottle is the coat hanger scales.
To provide stability to these scales, hang a heavy object like a cup from the centre of the hanger’s bottom rail.
Then, hang two paper cups from either end and in one cup put an object that you know the weight of, as in a 20 pence piece or a pound coin as mentioned above, or maybe a portion of a bar of chocolate, in one cup. This will cause the hanger to tilt, so you just fill the cup on the other end until the hanger is perfectly straight again.
