Perugia is the capital of the Italian region of Umbria with around 166,000 inhabitants.
The city's history dates back 2800 years to Etruscan times and was also known in Roman antiquity by its Latin name Perusia.
Remains from this time can be found in the city wall and its gates.
Uniquely beautiful is the IV Novembre square with the Fontana Maggiore fountain in front of the Palazzo dei Priori and the Cathedral.
