In May 2021, the International Energy Agency (IEA) has issued a report, the Role of Critical Minerals in Clean Energy Transitions, which analyzes the complex links between these minerals, energy security, and the prospects for a sustainable, sequential yet rapid transformation of the energy sector. The report was informed by extensive consultation with partners, including the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development (IGF).
This IEA-IGF webinar explores the important issues identified in the IEA’s report, including:
• Mineral demand implications of a rapid shift to clean energy technologies
• Far-reaching implications for the metals and mining sector
• The global shortfall in mineral supply and investment for energy transformation
• International coordination and due diligence
