Wax Rings
A Wax Ring provides the essential seal between the drain of the toilet's bowl and the sewer flange. Whenever the toilet is un-mounted from the flange, the wax ring must be replaced. Wax rings come in a variety of sizes, ranging from small wax-only rings to thicker rings with a stabilizer mesh inside. They also may come with a rubber lip pre installed. Thicker rings may provide a better seal with the toilet flange if there are any concerns. When the wax ring is purchased, it should also come with a set of toilet mounting bolts.
For an alternative to a wax ring some companies sell what is called a "toilet seal or bowl gasket." This product does essentially the same thing as a wax ring but without using any messy wax.
