Antarctica has a very sorry history regarding whaling. Whaling was rampant to the extent that nearly entire whale population was wiped off. Thanks to recent conservation efforts, slowly the numbers are getting better. Remnants of that era are still open for tourists to observe, like at Whalers Bay on the Deception Island
