NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams will have to wait a bit longer before piloting Boeing's Starliner spacecraft to the International Space Station. After a faulty valve in the Centaur upper stage of United Launch Alliance's (ULA) Atlas V rocket caused the mission to scrub on May 6, the rocket was rolled back into the hangar known as the Vertical Integration Facility (VIF).
While there, Boeing decided to take some time to check out a small leak on one of the Reaction Control System (RCS) thrusters on the spacecraft's service module and gain greater confidence that, as they believe, it is within safe launch parameters.
Update 4:40 p.m. EDT, May 17, 2024:
NASA and Boeing adjusted the new target launch date of the mission as they continue assessing the helium leak and its impact on the mission. The Crew Flight Test mission will now launch no earlier than Saturday, May 25, at 3:09 p.m. EDT (1909 UTC).
