I was at my local Deere dealer today, interested in the lawn and garden tractors. I actually came down to grab a few 2013 calendars and look in the used equipment lot, but something caught my eye in the new section of the office - the D105 lawn tractor.
This tractor is going into production in 2013. It will replace the D100 gear-drive lawn tractor. It's built on the same frame as the other 100 series tractors. It has a 17.5 HP Intek series Briggs and Stratton single-cylinder engine, a 42" Edge mower deck with manual lift, and the new, unique feature is the hand-operated hydrostat control.
The hand hydro is designed to replace the 5-speed gear drive system used in the previous L100, 102, LA100, LA105, and D100 models. It's a similar design used on the 2x5 and 3xx series made in the 1990's. The shifter is replaced by a small lever on the right-hand fender, with neutral, forward, and reverse controls. It also uses a forward pedal which acts as a variable speed control.
This is just a sneak-peek into the new mower, for those interested in buying one. The hand hydro is much easier than the previous gear-drive system. It's one unique little tractor!
