Following the siege of acre, which brought an end to the Kingdom of Jerusalem, the order continued to exist for 22 more years until Pope Clement the Fifth dismissed the Knights Templar while facing public pressure from King Phillip the IV of France. Phillip wanted who wanted to bring an end to the Templars to absolve his debts, of which he owed a significant amount to the Templars. But prior to their end, following their defeat at Acre, they did attempt to gather support for a new crusade, but they ultimately did not succeed.
