Nike scrapped the red, white and blue version of its Air Max 1 sneakers, which were set to be released ahead of the July 4th holiday, The Wall Street Journal reported. They have the old version of the American flag, known as 'Betsy Ross,' emblazoned on the heel. Former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick complained that the symbol is linked to an era of slavery. Nike had already shipped the shoes to retailers when it recalled them. The move has drawn mixed reactions from social media users, with some praising Kaepernick, an outspoken political activist, and other calling him 'un-American'.
