I know I'm late to this discovery but I may aswell post for fun. A great friend of mine and I theorized about this awhile back, We always believed when Celtor was above the surface not in the depths.. the elevator (the Trial) was used as a gateway to Heaven (Celestial City/Lightborn City). We felt this was true since the Watchers in the depths summon Angels on players.. we believed the Watchers acted more as guards for the Trial since perhaps many unworthy or criminals tried using the Trial to get closer to celestials.. which would make the summoning of Angels make sense. I'm sure there's plot holes in what we theorized but afterall it's just a theory.. I'm just really excited that It turns out we're closer to being right than wrong.
