Title: Pres. Park to meet new ruling party floor leader on Thursday
We begin with domestic politics.
President Park Geun-hye will meet with the ruling Saenuri Party leaders,... including the newly elected floor leader Won Yoo-chul on Thursday.
The meeting comes as the new floor leader faces a host of tasks, one of which is improving relations with the presidential office.
Park Ji-won starts us off.
President Park Geun-hye will meet new Saenuri floor leader, Won Yoo-chul, and party chairman Kim Moo-sung on Thursday, signaling a turning point for better cooperation between the presidential office and the ruling bloc.
It was confirmed Tuesday, when the newly appointed senior presidential secretary for political affairs, Hyun Ki-hwan, met with Saenuri Chairman Kim.
Earlier in the day... Won was officially approved by party consensus to take up the floor leader post.
In his acceptance speech, the 52-year old four-term lawmaker said he would mend ties with the president.
"Based on a close relationship with the presidential office, I will focus on improving the economy and the livelihoods of the people,... and on fulfilling the Park Geun-hye administration′s reforms in four major areas: the public sector, labor, education and finance."
The new ruling party floor leader got right down to business, meeting with his oppostion party counterpart, Lee Jong-kul soon after giving those remarks.
The two vowed to work together on many pressing issues, including a contentious multi-billion dollar extra budget.
The main opposition floor leader also held a briefing earlier in the day Lee said his party would push to increase the amount of budget funds that would go to support the people and medical institutions that suffered as a result of the MERS outbreak.
And he reiterated the opposition′s view that some five billion U.S. dollars allocated to covering the current tax revenue deficit... should be cut.
