A beautiful route avoiding motorways and busy roads heading north up into some of the best roads in the Yorkshire Dales. Start at Squires Cafe, head towards Tadcaster, Pool in Wharfedale, Grassington, Hawes and then upto the highest pub in England, The Tan Hill Inn.
Head back down through Reeth, Leyburn and Masham towards Ripon for the final run along the A168 before picking back up the first part of the route back through Tadcaster to Squires Cafe.
No motorways, plenty of places to rest and refuel, both bikes and bodies. A route that has everything from fast flowing wide open roads to tight twisty undulating roads all packed with amazing scenery. Best of all you will barely see any traffic. You'll want to do this one a few times.
CONSIDERATIONS;
After heavy rains the roads north of Pool in Wharfdale can be spattered in gravel that has washed over the road surface. Often this sits in the middle and isn't an issue unless you're taking a racing line.
Single track roads north of Buckden have lots of varried traffic, take it easy in areas you can't easily see ahead.
North of Hawes all the way round to Reeth tends to see sheep on the road. Even if you have a straight through pipe and are revving the goolies off it, they wont move and why should they. Give them space and you'll be fine but lambs in spring through to early summer will be more skittish.
There are a pair of hairpins/switchbacks heading up to Tan Hill but they are about as tame as a switchback can get so not a worry, infact a great place to learn if you've never ridden them.
