After Vadstena we drove towards Jönköping County to visit the Brahehus Castle ruin, 3km from the town Gränna.
The castle now a ruin was once owed by A royal Count Per Brahe. It is located at the eastern cliff side of the Vättern lake.
The construction of the castle was built exclusively of natural stones. The building had begun in 1638 and later in 1651, a year before its completion the counts wife died. The castle was constructed for the counts wife since she died before the completion the castle had been used as a guesthouse for the counts visitors, Since Count Per Brahe resided In his other castle the Visingborg castle ( also now a ruin) in Vising island.The Brahehus castle was burned down in 1708.
The count died in 1680, later after he died the castle , Under King Charles the XI the county was confiscated from the crown. Brahehus castle begun to fall and then was a victim of a fire nearby in September 29, 1708.
