An internet message board associated with National Taiwan University was a platform for citizens to express their dissatisfaction with the killing of a local fisherman at the hands of Philippine authorities. Few thought it would escalate into cyber warfare.At 9:17 this morning, the Presidential Office confirmed that hackers from the Philippines attacked its website, resulting in a denial of service disruption. The cyber attack also affected other government agencies such as the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, and the Coast Guard Administration. All websites returned to normal service at one o''clock in the afternoon.
