The seventh National Assembly Speaker in democratic South Africa has cut short her stint as the principle office bearer.
Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula resigned on Wednesday as Speaker and member of parliament amid corruption allegations against her.
She handed herself over to police yesterday and appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court, where she was granted R50 000 bail.
She is facing 12 counts of corruption in relation to the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act and one count of money laundering, emanating from when she was the Minister of Defence.
