This video contains paid product placement for Freewheel. This is the Specialized Roubaix Expert, Matthew Loveridge's 2020 long-term bike. For years now the Roubaix has been Specialized's endurance road bike. It's the squishy, comfortable and more upright alternative to the purely road race focused Tarmac.
The USP of this carnation of the Roubaix is the future shock suspension cartridge in the headset. Matthew has long been intrigued by the unique suspension system, sceptical that it could really be justified on a bike that’s meant only for the road.
After a somewhat different 6 months of testing, Matthew found out how well it works in the real world, and how the bike compares to dedicated all-road designs.
