The COVID-19 pandemic has profoundly impacted every aspect of society, both on a European and global level. However, the pandemic has not affected all groups of the population equally, as shown by FRA’s regular bulletins on the fundamental rights implications of COVID-19. In fact, responses to the pandemic have illustrated and exacerbated existing patterns of discrimination, prejudice and intolerance. The recent killing of George Perry Floyd during a police stop, and the subsequent rapid spread of mass protests across the world have underlined the urgent need to address institutionalised racism and discrimination also present in the EU.
Keynote Speech with:
Commissioner Helena Dalli (Commissioner for Equality, European Commission)
Michael O’Flaherty (FRA Director)
Dr. Pierrette Herzberger-Fofana (MEP, European Parliament)

Dora Kostakopoulou (Member of the Scientific Committee FRA and Professor of European Law at the University of Warwick)
Moderator: Sergio Carrera (CEPS and EUI)
This Webinar, co-organised between CEPS and the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA), will highlight and critically explore some of these patterns and discuss the significance of the pandemic responses on citizen’s fundamental rights. We will also explore what this implies for EU and national policy makers and the necessity to properly implement fundamental rights protections in the EU.
