The COVID-19 pandemic has profoundly impacted every aspect of society, both on a European and global level. However, the pandemic has not affected all groups of the population equally, as shown by FRA’s regular bulletins on the fundamental rights implications of COVID-19. In fact, responses to the pandemic have illustrated and exacerbated existing patterns of discrimination, prejudice and intolerance. The recent killing of George Perry Floyd during a police stop, and the subsequent rapid spread of mass protests across the world have underlined the urgent need to address institutionalised racism and discrimination also present in the EU.
