Presenter Bio:
Lauren Rhoades is the owner and founder of Sweet & Sauer, a kombucha brewery and fermentory in Jackson, Mississippi. Originally from Colorado, Lauren moved to Jackson to work with FoodCorps, a non-profit AmeriCorps partner that connects kids and school communities with healthy food. As a FoodCorps service member and later the state fellow, Lauren helped build school garden programs and strengthen statewide Farm to School initiatives. Lauren is also an avid fermenter; she’s worked with Tara Whitsitt of Fermentation on Wheels, and earlier this year attended Sandor Katz's fermentation residency. In 2015, she combined this interest in fermentation with her passion for healthy, local foods and her connections with Mississippi farmers to form Sweet & Sauer. What initially began as a hobby-turned-small-cottage-food-venture, has since morphed into a full time commercial business. With Sweet & Sauer, Lauren uses local, sustainably grown and foraged fruits, vegetables, and herbs to produce small batch kombuchas, fermented mustard, sauerkraut, kimchi, and pickles.
