(13 Feb 2017) The Speaker of the UK House of Commons John Bercow met with Israeli Knesset Speaker Yuli-Yoel Edelstein in Jerusalem on Monday.
Bercow, who is on a two-day visit to Israel, was received by honour guard and the stirring pomp of a military band.
The UK Speaker recently made headlines when he said that US President Donald Trump should not be allowed to address the Parliament on his state visit to the UK.
He cited Trump's migrant ban as well as the UK's "opposition to racism and to sexism".
The Conservative Speaker's intervention was highly unusual and criticized by several members of his own party.
During his visit, Bercow is to meet with Knesset officials.
On Tuesday, he is expected to address students on the responsibilities of the Speaker of the UK House of Commons.
