Lamborghini introduced a V12 in 1963 for the 350 GT, but it wasn't until 2011 that an all-new development debuted with the Aventador. The original twelve-cylinder mill was initially engineered as a race car engine before being toned down for street use. It was used for nearly half a century, initially mounted at the front with a 3.5-liter displacement. With aluminum cylinder heads, crankcase, and pistons, weight was kept down to 232 kg (511 lbs).
