United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres visited flood-hit Pakistan and met PM Shehbaz Sharif. He appealed for “massive” global support for Pakistan where devastating floods have killed nearly 1,400 people and made more than a million people homeless.
“Pakistan and other developing countries are paying a horrific price for the intransigence of big emitters that continue to bet on fossil fuels. From Islamabad, I am issuing a global appeal: Stop the madness. Invest in renewable energy now. End the war with nature,” the UN Chief tweeted.
