2023 Ford Bronco.
There are plenty of SUVs designed with off-road capability, but the Ford Bronco is one of the few that takes it seriously. Whether your idea of off-roading is speeding through the desert, crawling over rocks, or sloshing through the swamp, the Bronco is up to the challenge. Its most direct competitor, the Jeep Wrangler, offers comparable off-road capability, though its highway ride isn't as smooth. Both vehicles offer a removable roof and doors, but the Wrangler can also fold its windshield onto the hood for a true wind-in-your-face experience. The Bronco has a choice of three engines depending on trim level, a comprehensive infotainment system, and plenty of standard and optional safety features, making it a good choice for everyday and off-road adventures. This year's new vintage-inspired trims combine modern off-road capability with a hefty dose of nostalgia for standout style. Other standout off-roaders include the Toyota 4Runner and Land Rover Defender. The 4Runner provides excellent rough-terrain capability along with a quieter cabin, while the Defender has a more luxurious ride but is considerably more expensive.
2024 Kia Seltos.
A small, stylish crossover with even more visual flair this year, the Kia Seltos offers spacious cargo room, user-friendly tech, and ample safety features at a sensible price. A weak base engine holds back much of the lineup, but an optional, more powerful engine livens up performance. The Kia Seltos is a 5-seater vehicle that comes in 5 trim levels. The most popular style is the SX 1.6T AWD, which starts at $31,315 and comes with a 1.6L I4 Turbo engine and All Wheel Drive. This Seltos is estimated to deliver 25 MPG in the city and 27 MPG on the highway.The five-passenger Seltos offers a roomy interior, impressive cargo space, and a fuel-efficient engine in a stylish package with colorful paint choices (Pluton Blue or Valais Green are among the new extroverted options). The base engine leaves us cold, but fortunately, the optional turbocharged four-cylinder, with nearly 200 horsepower, gives the Seltos some unexpected verve. For 2024, there's also a new eight-speed transmission, extra safety features, and a new X-Line trim package that we think is the one to get.
2024 Hyundai Palisade.
The 2024 Hyundai Palisade is one of our favorite three-row SUVs because it offers a lot of space and features for the money while distinguishing itself with luxurious style and personality. The Hyundai Palisade is a 7-seater vehicle that comes in 6 trim levels. The most popular style is the Calligraphy AWD, which starts at $53,435 and comes with a 3.8L V6 engine and All Wheel Drive. This Palisade is estimated to deliver 19 MPG in the city and 24 MPG on the highway.It's also impressively quiet inside, so it's a joy on long road trips with all of the family aboard. It seats eight comfortably, although the Honda and Chevy offer more legroom in the far back seats and a bit more cargo space behind that third row. Most buyers in this class will appreciate the Palisade's light steering and well-tuned independent suspension, which prioritizes ride comfort over agile handling.

The expensive Mercedes-Benz G-Class is a highly capable off-roader that can take on some of the most difficult trails. Comfortable for a truck-like SUV, its tall and not-so-aerodynamic body will also cost you at the pump. The Mercedes-Benz G-Class is a 5-seater vehicle that comes in 3 trim levels. The most popular style is the G 550, which starts at $141,050 and comes with a 4.0L V8 Turbo engine and All Wheel Drive. This G-Class is estimated to deliver 13 MPG in the city and 16 MPG on the highway.The Mercedes-Benz G-Class SUV is as iconic as Katharine Hepburn or Humphrey Bogart. It has its roots in military utility, but its legendary style fits the most discerning of Hollywood’s elite. As comfortable off-road as it is on Sunset Boulevard, the tall, boxy G-Class has room for five passengers and plenty of headroom throughout. Although legroom is not as generous as in other luxury SUVs, the seats are roomy and upholstered in rich leather, available in a wide variety of stunning color combinations.
