Our air fryer is about 2 years. I have never cleaned the top part it was so greasy. I would recommend cleaning it regularly that way you use less time and energy.
How I cleaned it on the inside
I soaked it with the grease remover for about 30 minutes after spraying it. Then did the scrubbing. I will be washing ours regularly now that I don't want to do such a serious scrubbing like I did today to avoid rusting.
How We clean the basket.
My husband and I clean the baskets after every use. We just soak it with vinegar+hot water + baking soda then we wash it with a sponge.
