Miriam Borgenicht (1915–1992) was an American mystery novelist whose career spanned over four decades. Born in Manhattan and educated at Barnard College, she graduated in 1936 and later balanced her roles as a writer and a mother of five. Her debut novel, A Corpse in Diplomacy (1949), launched a body of work that included titles like Don't Look Back (1956), To Borrow Trouble (1965), and No Duress (1991). Borgenicht also contributed articles to The New Yorker, McCall's, and The New Republic. While her novels were often praised for their perceptive commentary on societal issues, they received mixed critical reviews, with some praising their tension and strong characters, while others noted inconsistencies in plotting and narrative execution. I've read several of her books, and I like her, but the quality is inconsistent. ROADBLOCK is pretty dull, but RING AND WALK IN is excellent. I liked TRUE OR FALSE? reviewed here. It shows Borgenicht in good form. (—Steven Rigolosi, December 17, 2024)
