President William Ruto is yet again up in arms with sugar barons that he says have taken the government and sugarcane farmers hostage. The President says the known individuals had refused to pay farmers for years even after making a kill from the produce and using the courts as their shield. The president, who spoke in a meeting with sugarcane farmers in Awendo Migori County, however reiterated the government’s plan to write off Ksh 117 billion accrued in arrears as the sugarcane companies are put under a leasing program.
