[ Ссылка ] Britain has called on the Arab League to urge the UN to pass a resolution on Syria. It comes as the League's monitoring mission appears close to collapse.



Saudi Arabia's Gulf allies have now joined Riyadh in pulling out of the operation. Their presence in the copuntry did next to nothing to stop violence in a 10-month-old revolt against President Bashar al-Assad.



But a UN Security Council resolution remains far off with veto-wielding powers Russia and China maintaining their support for Assad.
