The Ministry of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development has attributed the delay in investigating the alleged Bank of Uganda (BOU) heist to the pending forensic report.
Lawrence Ssemakula, the Accountant General at the Ministry of Finance, informed the Parliamentary Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities, and State Enterprises that the delay is due to waiting for this forensic report. The committee had previously criticized both the Ministry of Finance and the Bank of Uganda for their handling of the matter, particularly regarding the loss of 60 billion shillings.
On the second day of hearings, officials from the Bank of Uganda and the Ministry of Finance appeared before the committee to respond to questions surrounding the alleged theft of approximately 60 billion shillings, which was transferred to two separate illegal accounts.
The committee, chaired by Busiro East MP Medard Sseggona, noted that the two institutions had failed to provide substantial documentation or summon any responsible individuals for questioning.
