Does automatic braking really work? Let’s review the Rear Automatic Emergency braking (also known as Auto Brake, Automated Emergency Braking, Reverse Emergency braking, Reverse Automatic Braking).
It’s a standard feature on ALL 2022 Outlanders. We are testing it with a fully loaded version but also a base Outlander will have this safety system.
It uses Sonar system installed in the rear bumper to detect an obstacle when in reverse, issuing a warning and applying brakes when necessary to help avoid potential collisions.
Outlander gives you a visual reference with backup camera as well as audio reference through backup sensors. But let’s say maybe you’re talking to your neighbor while back up or looking away and you have missed that there is something in your backup path- the system will actually kick in and brake for you! The system detects all kinds of objects - bicycles, cars, garbage bins, large household items and much more.
We will test this system with a garbage bin. By the way - LEAVE A COMMENT if you’ve hit a garbage bin while backing up! :) It will be interesting to see how many people have actually done and if this system would be useful for them :)
AEB helps the driver to avoid a crash or to mitigate the impact into objects directly behind their vehicle. The system provides alerts and automatically applies hard, emergency braking when the vehicle is in the Reverse gear and traveling at low speeds.
The Rear Automatic Emergency Braking [Rear AEB] system is a supplemental aid to the driver. Always use the side and rear mirrors and turn and look in the direction you will move before and while backing up. There is a limitation to the Rear AEB system capability. For full description of this feature please refer to information provided by Mitsubishi.
With serious upgrade in style, a larger interior and far more features than ever before, this all new OUTLANDER is much more competitive with rivals like the Honda CR-V, Ford Escape and Toyota RAV4.
