The story takes place in Grant City, USA, a once bustling gold-mining town turned corrupt, becoming "the hardest place on Earth." Jack Slate, a Grant City K-9 cop, arrives at a murder scene to discover that his father, private investigator and former cop Frank Slate, is the victim. As Jack begins the dangerous task of finding his father's killer, he is framed for another murder. What he then discovers sends him on a downward spiral into a labyrinth of corruption betrayal and crime.

Notes about the game:
Essentially a cheesy, B-Movie version of Max Payne, this was a fun neo-noir bullet-time shooter released back in 2002. I've always loved this game and interestingly the Xbox version is much more difficult than the PS2 and GameCube versions released later. I thought I'd challenge myself by playing the Xbox version for this walkthrough. The dialogue is "so bad it's good", the gunplay and brutal disarm moves are great but some levels really outstay their welcome with unnecessary padding and backtracking. This is definitely a throw-back to when games tried to be as challenging as possible to get your money's worth. A charming gem nevertheless.
