Screwball comedies are one of the great joy of American cinema, and two of the best, now out in new Criterion editions, starred that superb farceur Cary Grant.
Directed by Leo McCarey, "The Awful Truth" costars Grant with the under-appreciated Irene Dunne, while George Cukor's "The Philadelphia Story" pairs him with frequent partner Katharine Hepburn and throws Jimmy Stewart into the bargain.
