Jimmy McRae is a name synonymous with British rallying. Sons Alister and Colin both had distinguished careers at the top level in WRC but Jimmy too was no slouch winning the British Rally Championship on fives occasions in the 1980s.

In 2008 he slipped Down Under to have a go at The Silver Fern Rally and it’s here we find this week’s ‘Magic Moment’ in and around iconic Queenstown.

Like McRae the previous event’s winner Brian Stokes was also back in a modified Ford Escort but it was a tough event for both drivers.
