The Taliban have captured the capital of Ghazni province, making it the 10th capital to fall in less than a week.
This comes after the US said it is looking to forge an international consensus on the need for a peace accord for Afghanistan.
At a press briefing, State Department spokesperson Ned Price said all recent indications suggest that the Taliban seek a battlefield victory.
He said the Taliban are violating the February 20-20 deal and are targeting civilians.
