A Book Summary of Anthem by Ayn Rand
In Ayn Rand's 1938 book Anthem, a young man named Equality 7-2521 lives in a dystopian collectivist state where being an individual is a sin.
- Equality 7-2521 works as a street sweeper, but in secret, he does experiments in science. After making the light bulb, he is given a harsh punishment and runs away into the forest.
- Liberty 5-3000, the woman Equality 7-2521 loves, finds him, and the two of them move into an old house where Equality 7-2521 reads old books.
- Equality 7-2521 gives himself and his partner new names: Prometheus and Gaea. Prometheus promises to raise their child to be an individualist when Gaea gets pregnant.
