This is the first of six sessions of the 2024 JCoR SDG Lab, which was conducted on the margins of the 2024 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF). The Lab showcases Catholic Religious Sisters, Brothers, priests, and their partners’ perspectives on progress and good practices towards sustainable development in their respective countries. This session was held on 22 July 2024 and focuses on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) #1: Eradicate poverty in all its forms everywhere.
The annual High Level Political Forum (HLPF) took place from 8-17 July 2024. The HLPF functions as the central United Nations platform for the follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Each year, the Forum focuses on a select few SDGs, and government leaders voluntarily report on their national progress toward achievement of these SDGs. The "priority SDGs" for 2024 were SDG 1 (eradicate poverty), SDG 2 (sustainable agriculture and zero hunger), SDG 13 (action in response to the climate crisis), SDG 16 (justice, peace, and strong public institutions), and SDG 17 (partnerships and resources for sustainable development).
In addition to reports from governments, the HLPF also includes events sponsored by civil society groups, to highlight their perspectives on implementation and progress toward the SDGs in their respective countries. JCoR delegates joined the conversation by conducting this series of virtual discussions which we call the “JCoR SDG Lab.” The Lab ran from 22 to 29 July and included sessions dedicated to each of the aforementioned SDGs of focus for the 2024 HLPF.
