Elche, also known as Elx, is a vibrant town in the province of Alicante, part of the Valencian Community. Situated along the Vinalopó River, it lies just 23 kilometers south of Alicante and 15 kilometers from the Mediterranean Sea. With a population of approximately 230,000, Elche ranks as the third-largest city in the region, following Valencia and Alicante. Renowned as Spain's shoe-making hub, Elche boasts over 1,000 shoe factories. The city is also famous for its iconic palm trees, with the Elche Palm Grove—home to over 200,000 palms—recognized as the largest palm forest in Europe and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
