This session will highlight the Pacific Island countries unique challenges in accelerating water security action that are resilient to the region’s high exposure to climate and disaster risks. Securing the water security of the region requires innovative and collaborative partnerships that places water security as a critical component of resilience. Our call for accelerating water security actions for Pacific Resilience aligns to the call for accelerated actions on SDG 6. It is anchored on the Pacific Regional Framework for Resilient Development in the Pacific, the BOE Declaration, national adaptation plans, water and sanitation policies, and national communications that places resilience at the core of adaption and mitigation planning.
The key objective of the session is to:
Highlight the Actions the Pacific has taken in progressing SDG 6.
Share the unique challenges the Pacific is facing in accelerating SDG 6.
Promote increased, and meaningful engagements in water security as a critical component of resilience.
Highlight that water security in the Pacific is more than just delivering primary access. It is a climate resilience issue that must involve multi-stakeholder engagement and partnerships with development partners, intergovernmental organizations, youths, civil society organizations, vulnerable groups, women organizations, and academia to accelerate water security actions.
