Norse Atlantic Airways B787-9 Premium Class. This was the inaugural flight of Norse from London Gatwick to New York JFK on August 12, 2022. The route is served by a B787-9 which has 338 seats configured in two classes with 282 economy passengers and 56 premium economy.. The 56 Premium seats are in eight rows of 2-3-2 at the front of the aircraft. The configuration is 2-3-2 (AC -DEF GJ). These are comfortable armchair-type seats, The seat has a pitch of 43 inches and 12 inches of recline (the B787s have 46 inches in Premium) and has a utilitarian grey leather covering with antimacassars with the Norse logo on them.
When you buy your ticket, you’ll find (as with many low-cost carriers) that there are various ways of spending more than the headline fare. Seat selection seems to cost between £30 and £75, depending on the seat (window seats are more expensive). The system also says that all the seats are ‘extra legroom’, which might make you feel better about paying to select them, but isn’t true for most of them unless it means extra compared to the legroom in economy. If you buy a Premium Plus ticket, then seat selection is included.
Bear in mind also that if any Premium seats are unsold, just before take-off, economy passengers are invited to pay for an upgrade, so even if the doors shut and the seat next to you is vacant, it may not remain that way.

Hello, Tom Otley here, editor of Business Traveller. Welcome to the latest of our flight reviews. Today we're on the new Norse service between the London Gatwick and New York JFK. The cabin on this B787-9 has a total of 338 seats, and that's 282 in economy and 56 in their premium cabin. The premium economy cabin, where I am for this flight, is in a 232 configuration, and that's set up as AC, DEF, and GJ. So if you want a window seat, you're going for either the A seat, or the J seat. And bear in mind, most of these seats are similar, obviously the front row, you are gonna get more leg room, and weirdly enough, row five has a slightly impaired view, there's not a window there, and of course that might suit you but it's something to bear in mind if you're hoping to look out of the window during the journey. The seat's very comfortable, it's got a gray leather exterior but it's got a seat pitch of 43 inches, and 12 inches of recline for when you want to go to sleep. It's possible to recline the seat without causing too much disruption to the person behind, but really, you would wait until they'd had their meal and done some work, and then pretty much everyone reclines their seats together. And you can tell when that's gonna happen, because between the meal services say, on the way to New York, there's a period in the middle of the flight when people tend to watch the in flight entertainment and just relax. So just demonstrating the in-flight entertainment, which comes out like this, mine's a squeaky one, and there's a control down here as well. The in-flight entertainment system is a good one. The choice is to get information on the flight, to watch TV, movies, there's also the chance to plug in phone through a USB and you can plug in the headphones via the jack. The headphones or earphones, really earbuds, cost if you are in economy, but they're distributed for free or as part of the fare in premium economy. As part of the premium economy experience, you are given a blanket and also some earbuds, which plug into the IFE system. You'll also be offered a drink on arrival, once you get on the plane and that's a soft drink, it's either apple juice, orange juice or water. And then after takeoff there's a drinks service, and that's when you have the choice of alcohol or non-alcohol. There's no sparkling wine, but there is red wine, white wine, beer, soft drinks, and also no-alcohol beer, and a load of different fruit juices. As far as the food is concerned, you get a main meal choice of either, on this flight, chicken and rice and vegetable, or salmon with potato mash and spinach. I didn't have either of those because I pre-ordered a special meal. And my vegan choice was Asian noodles and tofu. That was very tasty. From the people I spoke to across the aisle who'd had both the chicken and the salmon, they said the salmon was the one to go with, so that's salmon with potato mash and spinach, that's the meal choice for this flight. If you want to have more drinks, you get one drink before the meal, you get a second one with that main meal, and then a third one with the final meal. But if you want to drink in between, either soft drinks or alcohol, they are for sale. Wines are about $9 to 11.50, although if you want some champagne, that's 13.50, and beers are around $7, the beers are Carlsberg. There's also an India Pale Ale for $8. So we've got the table here, it's as you'd expect, under the arm...
