On Tisha B’Av we see the Jewish people with a gloomy face, some are crying, they are not wearing leather shoes, we see them fasting and spending their day in synagogue and we hear they are mourning The destruction of the temples.But why are they doing all of this?Isn’t the fast for Yom Kippur enough?In this video we will answer all these questions and stay tuned until the end of the video to know what should you do to make this Tisha B’Av more than a fast day and for you to discover the tremendous transformative potential of Tisha B’Av will have on you.And if you like this content all about simplifying and adding meaning to your Jewish life please consider subscribing!So let’s jump into it!!The Jewish traditions in this of 3 weeks between the 17th of Tammuz and the 9 of Av also known as BEN HAMETZARIM is to decrease our merrymaking : no weddings, , no travelling, no buying of new items of value, ...this period will intensify in the last 9 days of Av leading to Tisha b’av where we will not wear fresh laundered clothes, we can only take cold showers, we cannot eat meat, ..and finally on the 9th of Av we will fast, sit on the floor, say special prayers, weap and mourn.
What is so special about the 9 AV in history?
To better understand we have to go back in 1312 B.C.E. After the exodus from Egypt, while the Jews were wandering in the desert, 12 spies were sent to report on the ‘promised’ land ahead, this land was the land of Israel ( Eretz Canaan). a land described by G.d as the land of milk and 🍯 honey.
The spies cane back and gave a negative report, the Jews cried and G.d decreed that 9 Av will be a day of sorrow:
In history on that day destruction of 2 Beth Hamikdash, destruction of city of Betar and yerushalayim being plowed.
Why are we mourning the Beth Hamikdash/ temples?
Where resides G.d on earth
-ability to fulfill full potential spiritually
-atonement for sins
