Written and presented by Tanya R. Sorrell, PhD, PMHNP-BC. Dr. Sorrell is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health Sciences at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. A Program Director of a $5 million state-wide Colorado Legislative funded Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) Services Program, she is now Assistant Director of both the NIH NIDA Great Lakes Clinical Trials Network, and the Illinois Substance Use Regional Leadership Center, with a combined budget of over $20 million dollars towards Community Engaged Behavioral Health and Substance Use Treatment services for urban underserved groups in the Great Lakes Region. Served on national SAMHSA committees for Cultural Competence in Nursing Care and increasing Minority representation in graduate nursing programs. Her doctoral training is in rural and urban underserved Mental Health and Substance use services and Complementary medicine research.
