Matthieu Ricard has spent over 40 years in the Himalayas. He is a Buddhist monk who is also an author, translator, and photographer. He first visited India in 1967, where he met great Tibetan spiritual masters. After earning his PhD in cell genetics in 1972, he relocated to the Himalayan region, where he has lived for the past 45 years. What makes him famous is the way he combines ancient wisdom and scientific insights in his books, articles, podcasts, and talks.
In this book, he takes readers on a moving photographic journey into the heart of Buddhist spirituality as well as the daily lives and festivals of the people of the Tibetan interior. The reader follows the great lamas of eastern Tibet on some of their great pilgrimages, witnesses the artistry of wood-engravers at the massive Derge printing workshop (the oldest manual printing workshop), and meets hermit monks in extremely remote regions. These and other experiences are detailed in this book.
Absolutely loved this photographic journey through Tibet's monastery, rural & nomadic communities, and its barren wilderness.
