The art world is mourning the death of American painter Cy Twombly.
The artist has died at the age of 83 in Rome.
Twombly was renowned for his large paintings that went against the trends of the day.
He built up a global reputation, even though his abstract work divided the art critics.
Among the many tributes flooding in for the artist, the Gagosian Gallery, which represented him, said: "The art world has lost a true genius and a completely original talent. We will not soon see a talent of such amazing scope and intensity."
