This is a video on Lake Como End of February about the route from Menaggio to Belaggio via Varenna, and back.
Lake Como is also worth to visit in winter, there is usually "spring" weather there, except when not: we had one day sunny from the four as we were there, the others cloudy. The scenic villages on it's shore are a beautiful destination to check: Varenna, Menaggio, Bellagio.
The various mountain forms of the Italian Alps and the small towns with the huge lake make together an amazing typical italian view.
Most of the castle gardens are closed in winter but you can walk on the narrow streets between the ocher coloured houses. You can also take the ferry boat in winter or spring between these villages like us, or take the speedboats, private boat tours.
If you have more money you can take a seaplane between Como and the other regions of the lake.
In Varenna you can take good, handmade italian icecream/gelato and do also some shopping like handmade jewelry, paintings, souvenirs or clothing.
In the restaurants like in Bellagio opposite to the church you can take good pizza, pinza or italian hot-sandwiches.
In the evening when the last ferries leave the ports, you have to be there earlier otherwise you have to wait for the next one, there are so many tourists already off-season. In the small towns/villages there is not many place for car parking.
